RIT Spirit Expands to Albania: AATT Launch and Alumni Celebration in Tirana

TIRANA – The American Academy of Tirana and Technology (AATT) has officially marked its entry into the Albanian higher education landscape, bringing the prestigious programs of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to the heart of the capital. The launch was celebrated alongside a special Independence Day gathering, uniting generations of Albanian scholars who have earned American degrees through RIT’s global campuses.

A New Chapter for American Education in Albania

While AATT is a newly established institution in Tirana, it represents the latest expansion of an academic legacy that dates back to 1829. By offering RIT programs locally, AATT becomes the first institution in Albania to provide students with the opportunity to earn a degree from the renowned New York-based university without leaving the country.

The establishment of AATT builds upon a strong regional foundation. RIT has been a fixture in the Balkans since 2003 through its global campuses in Kosovo and Croatia. Over the past two decades, RIT Kosovo has graduated more than 1,500 alumni, a significant portion of whom are Albanian nationals who have gone on to become leaders in business, technology, and public policy.

Celebrating Independence and Shared Values

The launch event was strategically timed to coincide with the Fourth of July, serving as a dual tribute to the birth of the United States and the enduring educational partnership between America and Albania. The gathering brought together a diverse group of alumni, faculty, and supporters to celebrate at the site of Albania’s newest American-degree-granting institution.

The atmosphere was one of reflection and looking forward. For many in attendance, the event was a homecoming—a chance to reconnect with the RIT spirit that unites graduates across international borders.

“The gathering was more than a celebration; it was a tribute to shared values, lasting connections, and the exciting future ahead.”

Strengthening the Global Alumni Network

The presence of a dedicated RIT presence in Tirana is expected to further strengthen the professional network of the 1,500+ alumni already active in the region. By providing a local hub for RIT programs, AATT aims to foster continued innovation and academic excellence, ensuring that the “RIT spirit” continues to drive progress in Albania’s evolving economy.

As AATT begins its inaugural academic sessions, it stands as a testament to the growing demand for high-quality, internationally recognized education in the Western Balkans.
